Autumn is a great time for pumpkin fun! This week, we read some pumpkin books, made some pumpkin art, tasted some pumpkin bread and participated in some pumpkin gym activities!
We love pumpkins! Bring on the pumpkin pie!
We also started our Daily 5 Language centres this week. Each day, your child will participate in one of the 5 centres (writing, Raz Kids on the iPad, word work practise, partner read or working with the teacher on reading/writing skills). There are other times in the week that they will work on these skills as well, but this special time each day is devoted to developing independence in their abilities to use time wisely to practise these skills. The students did extremely well this week. The room was calm and quiet, the students were focused and they were all busy doing their jobs. It was such a wonderful and enjoyable time each day. It is so nice to see the children's independence growing each day. Take a look....
In Social Studies, the students are studying rules, roles and responsibilities.
Mrs. Baillargeon was talking to the students about rules that are different for them now as compared to when they were in kindergarten. She then had them predict rules that might be different for grade 8 students. The grade 8 students then visited our classroom and shared their rules with our students. The grade 1 students were shocked that the grade 8 students were allowed to chew gum! Together, the grade 8's and the grade 1's made a poster for a rule they would like to implement at Anderdon school. The posters will be on the blog next week.
Below is a few pictures of the classes working together on their posters:
